Natural Heat Options for Pain Relief

Posted on

When you have chronic pain, you likely are on several medications for pain relief and management. You may decide to look for natural relief for times when taking the medication may not be ideal. You may also look for natural options when you do not want a chance of interactions with your current medication. One option that may be suitable for helping with your pain relief is to use a heat source. Here are two of the natural heat options to consider and why they may help you.

Heat Body Wraps

There are many natural health clinics and spas offer a pain management option called heat body wraps. These are herbal heat wraps that can help pain located in various parts of your body. The wraps are made from various herbs that are known to promote healing and relaxation. For example, white willow bark can be found in some of these heat wraps. White willow bark is a natural pain reliever and can reduce pain and inflammation in certain areas. Other herbs that are included in these wraps are lavender, valerian root, and chamomile. The wraps are heated and they are placed on large areas or on specific areas that you are experiencing pain. They are left on for anywhere from 30 minutes or longer, depending on your needs. The aromatherapy from the herbs also helps with full-body relaxation, which can help to reduce tension and pain.

Electronic Hot Water Bottles

Electronic hot water bottles are used on specific areas of your body that you're experiencing pain. For example, you may be experiencing severe abdominal cramps or pain. The hot water bottle can be put on these areas to help reduce the pain and distress to that area. An electronic hot water bottle is one that has a special solution inside of the closed bottle. The hot water bottle is plugged into an electric outlet and charged for a specific amount of time depending on the manufacturer. Once the hot water bottle is charged, you can remove it from the charger, and the heat in the bottle will last up to eight hours. This is an ideal option if you are experiencing pain overnight and you do not want to use a traditional heating pad or another option that could get colder quicker.

These are just two of the natural heat options available to you for pain relief. Keep in mind, many of these options do have higher and lower end alternatives that can fit any budget. If you are concerned about the right amount of heat you need or have other questions about using heat for your pain management and pain treatment, contact your physician.
